August Summer Run

August is the hottest month of the summer in Texas.  This is the month you see triple digit temperatures and it's tough to train in the heat.  I'm scheduled to run 14 miles today and started running at 7:00 a.m. and it was already 78 degrees.  I tried a different tactic with my run today.  I knew that no matter how hard I would try to maintain pace the heat would get to me toward the end.  I agreed to not beat myself up and just run for endurance.  So, I started at a faster pace and just listened to my body and tried not to worry on pace, just endurance.  The last 4 miles seemed like I would never finish.  On my turn around, I ran facing the sun and I was trying to find shade.  No luck!  I stopped once for potty break.  I also ran out of water which was not good.  I finished in 2:00:05 at about 8:35 pace per mile.  Oh, how I miss running in the mountains! Running in the heat is not fun; however, so grateful for another day of running!
