Need New Shoes
This past week, I started feeling my right foot get a little tender on the outer right side of my foot. It's the same pain I felt when I hurt it when I was training for Cowtown 2014 which never happened cause an overuse injury. Although, I didn't get a stress fracture which I felt like one, I had to back off from my training in order to get ready for my first Boston 2014. I was able to run and complete Boston that year, but had to go through some physical therapy. So, this pain I'm feeling needs to go away. I know now that my mileage is picking up, I need to really listen to my body or else wind up with another overuse injury. This weekend, I HAVE to go get me some new shoes. I'm really bad about waiting until I hurt to get some...which is dumb on my part I know. I have a 20 mile run next weekend and really want to do good. The pain on my foot always seems to happen when I overdo it on the treadmill and go too fast doing hill work. I was trying to hurry up before teaching my cycle class when I felt that sharp pain. I took it easy my next few runs during the week, but every morning when I would wake up, my foot felt tender and sore. I was worried about my run yesterday because I had to run 18 miles. I just told myself to take it easy and listen to my body. I started my run at 9 min. miles and decided to do some hill work in the TCU area. Hills always force me to go slower anyway. While I was running around the TCU track field, I noticed the gate open and some little kids and couple of young guys were running sprints around the track. I was almost close to halfway through my mileage I decided to run on the track. It felt so good on my felt that I didn't feel the pain in my foot anymore. It was nice and felt like a young TCU track student and ran about a mile on the track before headed back. Hey, whatever it takes to get through right?..LOL! By this time I was able to pick up my pace and felt pretty good and no pain. I knew once I finished the hills at TCU it was going to be a good run back. My foot didn't hurt, there was an overcast and the temperature was in the 80's. It makes a huge difference when the hot sun is not hitting my face on my turnaround and not as hot. I was able to finish according to my Garmin at an 8:11 pace and due to my foot issue, I'm happy with that!
