Cowtown's First 20 Miler

I ran my first out of two 20 mile run today as I continue my training to Cowtown Marathon.  It's coming up less than a month and so far so good.  I'm still injury free thank the good Lord everyday for that.  This past Thursday, I finished the last week of Camp Gladiator's free month.  I'm sort of glad too.  I did it for two months and it was great to do during the holidays and the month after for I gained some weight over the holidays.  I don't feel bad about it though.  I knew I would gain weight because I always do.   I also knew that I would start training pretty soon for Cowtown Marathon and would loose it again.  Camp Gladiator did challenge my upper body and that was good.  However, I didn't like waking up at 5:00 a.m. to go to camp.  Usually if I wake up that early I'm running 8 miles before work. Not to mention, I would work out 3 times a day on Tuesdays and Thursday's because I still teach cycle at L.A. Fitness those evening and I'm still training for a marathon so I have to keep up with my training schedule.  On those two weekdays days it wore the crap out of me.  I would take it extra easy on my runs that day after camp.  I didn't want to be stupid and go hard because that would get me hurt.  Jake, the Camp Gladiator coach kept asking me if I was going to sign up.  Honestly, paying $69 per month is out of my budget and really don't have the time now that my mileage is starting to pick up.  Besides, I already have a gym membership to 24 Hour Fitness and can go whenever I want and I love that.  It fits my schedule!  I don't want to give up my Body Pump, Grit, and Yoga classes with my favorite instructors.  I also don't plan on quitting teaching cycle class for L.A. Fitness 3 times a week.  All that cross training has kept me injury free!  I'm also ready to catch up on my beauty sleep again...LOL!  As an athlete, you have to get your rest days, eat right and most of sleep well.  I try to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night and when I would wake up at 5:00 a.m. everyday that wasn't happening!  So, yes I'm glad I did Camp Gladiator, but glad it is done and over with!  Now I can really concentrate on my Cowtown Marathon training.

Today was a beautiful day for my 20 mile run.  The temperature starting in the upper 40s and finished in the 50's.  There were a lot of people out on the trails today.  I started downtown Fort Worth and ran all the way to Benbrook.  I even ran into some Super Heroes along the way.  I think they had some kind of hero run race going on.  I stopped to take a picture with Batman and Cat Woman and my Mapmyrun app paused for some reason and was two miles behind.  My Garmin worked fine and showed I maintained at 7:58 pace per mile and happy with that.  I ran a flat trail and hope to run a hilly one on my next 20 miler before the marathon in order to get ready for the hilly course. It's countdown time!
