Picking Up Mileage

I'm starting to pick up my mileage.  I've been adding two more miles each time for my Saturday long runs.  I'm up to 9 miles as of yesterday.  I decided to run in Dallas at Katy Trial and took Eddie with me.  I really wasn't sure I would be able to run the whole 9 miles and Eddie diffidently didn't want to run that far.  He was thinking maybe 6 and I told him I would be good with that, but really want to stick to my training schedule which called for 9 miles.  I decided I would let my body dictate how far I could go.  It was a cool run and lots of people were out on the trail.  What I really like about this trail is that they really cater to pedestrians; however, they don't have the gravel, dirt trails like Trinity has.  We started at 11 min pace per mile and picked it up to 9:50 toward the end.  Eddie stopped at 7.40 miles and I kept going to get my 9 miles in.  My foot wouldn't allow me to pick up my pace any faster and as soon as I would feel pain or soreness, I would slow down.  It's not worth it to hurt it again and have to start my recovery all over again.  I was able to run it nonstop super slow.

That evening we went to Eddie's best friend's son wedding with my family and I wore heals.  That probably wasn't a good idea after running 9 miles.  We also danced some country music and that too wasn't a good idea for I woke up sore this morning.  I still went to teach my cycle class but just took it easy on the hill work.

Dr. Chapman told me that I should consider running the half instead of the full marathon in Vegas.  He's worried about me long term.  I had sent him an email and said that sounds like a good idea for I know that I will not be ready for the full marathon.  After talking to Eddie about it, I decided not to run Vegas at all and instead I registered for the Goofy Challenge at Disney World in Florida come January.  Call me crazy, but figured since I'm missing my usual fall marathon race, I'll just double up for my winter marathon.  I usually run three marathons a year in the fall, winter and spring.  The Goofy Challenge is one half marathon on Saturday and full marathon on Sunday.  So, needless to say, I have way too much at stake to screw up my foot and not go to this one!  It's my baby boy's birthday month and we plan to take him to Disney World to celebrate his birthday as he turn 10 years old!!  We may be going with some friends and their grandson, so Noah will have fun.  I'm trying to stick to my training schedule as much as I can, but know that sometimes work gets in the way or my foot may feel extra sore, so I don't run.  Baby steps to full recovery.
