I have never seen so many bicycle in my life! They say that Amsterdam is called the Bike City. They even have a lane for bikes all over. They own the streets and people have to yield to them coming through. Eddie and I went on a bicycle ride and I was a nervous wreak the whole time because they ride super fast out there. We had a good time though and we didn't crash :)
I ran a couple times in the morning. I went solo so I didn't go very far from my hotel and ran 5Ks. I just stayed on the bike lane. I saw a couple other runners, but not many. They must of been tourist on vacation too. The weather was in the high 50s low 60s and felt great! It was so nice to run in cool weather again and get away from hot Texas heat! It also rains a lot in Amsterdam and kinda reminds me of Seattle, but much cooler weather.
As far as food. They are know for cheese and great waffles/pancakes. Oh and they have great cod fish too. There was no diet on this trip. That's what I like about traveling to other countries. I like to shop where the locals shop and eat what they eat. Good thing I'm not training for a marathon right now, because I eat what I want on vacation and run when I want (no training schedule). Don't get me wrong. I don't indulge in unhealthy food the whole time, but I do like to try new food when I travel. We stay so active when we travel anyways that we try and burn calories whenever we get a chance. Yes, I always pack my running shoes and workout clothes when I travel. It's just part of my lifestyle and always feel better after working out.
Now it's back to work I go and ready for another school year with my family. I pray for a great year. Keep on running!
