I'm super excited about all the new things happening with me right now. I'm the new captain for our school district team Birdville for Race for the Cure (aka,"Team Birdville"). I'm excited because I'm making it a walk/running club for all employees, friends and family in our school district in hopes of creating a huge team by the time we participate in Fort Worth Race for the Cure in April. We will participate in community fun runs in our metroplex throughout the school year too. I also hope to tie this into my runningjunky.com running club I've created. My website is up and running and I think I'm ready to start promoting it. Running clubs are starting to pop up everywhere and thought why not do one where I live? I have nothing to loose. Besides, I'm already doing it so why not try to motivate others to try and live a healthy lifestyle too?
Another fun thing I did was go get PiYo certified. One of the things that lead to my tendonitis right foot injury last year was not stretching enough. So, I decided if I start teaching it, it would force me to take the time to really stretch and I would use it as part of my marathon cross-training. I still don't feel comfortable teaching it for I still need more practice on counts, but hope to get it down soon. I also got a job teaching cycle class at L.A. Fitness three times a week. They don't require certification because they do in-house training and since I've done it for last 15 years they were really interested and hired me. I do plan on getting certified soon just to add it on my resume. I figured since I already do this as part of my cross-training, why not get paid for it too. A great benefit to this is I get free membership for me and my baby boy. I started teaching this week and it went well. Of course, I was a nervous wreak my first class because I had 21 people in there, but I survived!
I was scheduled to run 20 miles Saturday, but that was when I scheduled our first Team Birdville 5K and the ex-captain for the team had registered to be there to support me and the team. There was no way I would let her down by not showing up. Eddie agreed to wake up super early and go run as much of our scheduled run before running the 5k with our team. We woke up at 5 a.m. and started running about 5:45 a.m. on a trail by where the 5k was. It was dark and ran with Eddie until it got light outside and trail came to a dead end. Eddie went looking for a restroom and told me to keep going so, I turned around and picked up my pace. I was only able to get 16 miles in and would finish last 4 miles with 5k plus extra mile. Eddie did same, but he was scheduled for 19 miles according to his training schedule. The funny thing is that we both placed 2nd in our age group which was unexpected since we had already ran so much before, but hey, we'll take it! Yes, I do believe I'm starting a new chapter in my life. It's scary, but it feels good too!
