Boston is Two Weeks Away!
I ran my last 20 mile run on Saturday and now it's time to taper down my mileage before Boston Marathon. I'm still on the healthy eating kick and eating clean before Boston. I'm eating veggies 4 times a day and I never did that before. I also increased my water intake. I have always be pretty regular and was like clockwork and go to restroom and potty first thing in the morning. Since eating clean, there were a couple of times I almost didn't make it to the restroom while running. I was not happy! The worst thing is there is no routine of when I have to go. It happened 3 times while running a 5 mile, 8 mile and 13 miles. I decided to back off the veggies night before and eat my normal pasta dinner the night before my 20 mile run and guess what? I did better on this 20 miler than my first one two weeks ago. My time was 2:39:38 at a 7:59 pace per mile. I was surprised with my time because on my turn around the I thought I was going to get blown away the wind was so strong. There was no negative split and was all over the place on pace, but happy with the time. The best thing is that I didn't have any urge to run to the toilet. I gave up bread for Lent and did finally break down and ate a big fat juicy cheeseburger we grilled for Easter and couldn't eat the whole thing. I will continue to not eat much bread, eat clean and stick to what works for me before my long distance runs which is to carb load. I'll also continue with teaching my cycle classes and strength training because I feel more tone and stronger. Boston is 2 weeks out and happy I have no injuries this time around.
