Fighting a Head Cold
Yes, it's that time of year. As winter is coming to an end, it's sad to say we didn't get any snow this year. People at work are getting the flu and strip throat is going around. I started sneezing like crazy on Thursday and by Friday starting getting really congested. Needless to say, I wasn't able to make my 12 mile run on Saturday morning. Instead, I decided to attend a Technology Conference our district was hosting and got great information on social media. I took some medicine the night before and slept in until it was time to go to the conference later that morning. I really needed my body to rest that day so I didn't do anything the rest of the day. I was still able to teach my cycle class on Sunday, but was still congested. I didn't want to miss my 12 mile run today, so I decided to run after cycle class. I knew that it wasn't going to be easy going in. I had read an article about exercising when you have a cold and it safe as long as you don't run a fever. I didn't have fever and thought maybe it will help open and clear my sinuses. I took some cold medicine the night before and figured it might increase my heart rate causing my heart to pump very hard. Since I was already congested, I knew I would have a hard time breathing. So, knowing all that, I took is super easy and really listened to my body. I was able to finish the 12 miles at a 9:28 pace per mile, but it was a struggle because I forgot my gu blocks for energy and I felt weak. I also didn't eat half of my banana after cycle class I planned on eating and left it in the car. As soon as I finished I ate that banana and drink my water. I rushed home and made my protein shake and took my medicine again. After showering and eating I took a nap for about 2 hours with my pup Dash. She snuggled with me and slept the whole time. I woke up feeling rested and not as congested, but will continue to take my medicine until it clears up completely.
