New Adventures

My first born graduated high school today.  Since running Boston in April, I have been busy planning a graduation celebration party for my son.  It's crazy how fast 18 years have flown by!  I still run, but only run about 20 miles a week during my off season.  I will not start up my training for New York Marathon until the end of July.  So it's nice to run 3 times a week just for fun.  I am concentrating on more strength building with weights and still teach cycle class 3 times a week.  I try to run at least one long distance run on Saturdays between 6-10 miles.  Now that summer is right around the corner, I'll have to wake up earlier to beat the Texas heat.

Besides, getting ready for my son's graduation, I've accepted a new job because my current position was a federally funded grant for 5 years and my time has expired. That's why I had to look for a new job.  I'll forever be grateful for having been the ASPIRE Coordinator for an elementary after school program because, it made me the marathoner I am today.  I started a running club with my students and would schedule community 5Ks and run with them throughout the years.  Our students challenged me to continue with 10Ks, 15Ks, half-marathon and finally full marathons!  In the five years working here, I have ran 10 full marathons including Boston 3 times, New York City 2 times, Chicago, San Francisco just to name a few.  It's bittersweet to have to leave, but ready for a new adventure.  I have mixed emotions for I'll miss my awesome staff and administrators I work for and pray I meet good people to work with in my new position.  My little boy is entering 3rd grade and he will be able to go with me to my new school.  It will be nice to be able to come home at a decent time and be there for him more as he will be taking state exams next year.

So, if I haven't blogged in a while is because this past month has be a little hectic with so many changes.  One thing I know for sure is that I will continue to be our district team captain for our running club and will forever keep on running!
