It's been a hectic month since we got back from vacation. I started a new job at a charter school and have been super busy with trainings and moving into a temporary location until they finish building our school come this November. Don't get me wrong, I'm super excited about this new position and know I'm going to love it, but like starting anything new, I have a little anxiety of the unknown 😁.
I have started my New York Marathon training and just finished my fourth week of it. I have been doing okay with running in our hot Texas summer weather, until yesterday. We had a cold front move in and with it came rain in the morning. It felt great, but of course I don't run in the rain and had to wait it out. I had 18 miles to run and the rain wasn't stopping. So, decided to call my husband to see if he wanted to go grab some breakfast with the boys and I would just run after my food would settle and once the rain stopped. Well, that was a bad idea. We get to the restaurant and I'm nervous of what to eat because I never eat heavy before a long run. Eddie talked me into eating some whole wheat pancakes with bananas and he said he would share it with me. They were huge and didn't even eat half of it. I was so stuffed. We got home and I laid down and felt sleepy again. He said eating that should give me energy on my run. Well, I waited to long to run and by the time I left to run it was a lot warmer and very humid. I decided to run some hills in Keller and on my way back I hit the wall. I ran out of fuel/water at mile 14 and it was in the high 80's. That may sound like perfect weather to us Texans in the summer, but as a marathon runner, it's way too hot! I felt like quitting and just wanted to walk back when I saw I was very close to my gym in Keller. I thought about maybe running there to get some water and just finish the rest of my run on the treadmill, but decided to tough it out and keep going. My pace was already out the window so, I just concentrated on finishing. I was able to finish non-stop, super slow.
I knew better than that, but fell into temptation...LOL! Oh well, live and learn is what I tell myself😄! Not all runs will be good ones and we all have those days where we'll have a crappy run. Sometimes you may not be able to do all your scheduled runs during the week due to work/life things that come up, but one thing I don't cheat myself out of is my long distance runs.
Keep on running!
