June Birthday-Vacation Running

For my birthday weekend Eddie takes me to Bentonville, AZ.  It was a last minute thing and he contacted friend he went to high school with who owned a bed and breakfast there to see if there was anything available.  To our surprise, she hooked us up and we took off for the weekend.

This place was so beautiful to run on with lot of artwork everywhere.  I couldn't stop to take pictures on my run.  Lots of shade along the way which was perfect!  The best part was it had an awesome 400+trail of biking and or walk/running.  One of the trails behind the bed and breakfast was called the Crystal Bridges Trail.

It was nice to get away after months of social distancing and being stuck at home due to COVID-19! Also all the craziness with racism and riots going on it was just hard to watch the news anymore.   School was out and ready for a quick get-a-way with my Babe and not think or stress about what is happening all over the world.  Just for a bit anyways.

I come back home to a nice surprise in the mail.  I finally got my medal for my Big Sur cancelled marathon that was suppose to happened on April 26th.  Yes, I still ran it on the 25th solo by myself.  I ran at good old Trinity Trails in my hometown of Fort Worth.  I was grateful that Noah wanted to do it with me by following me on his bike.  Love that boy and happy to experience it with him.  Although toward the end I was ready to quit due to heat and walked/ran it.  Will he do it again?  Probably not, but me motivated me to keep going!

I continue to run with Dash, but during the summer I have to set alarm much earlier to run her when it's not so hot.  Also, our one long distance run is only up to 10 miles.  Too hot and it's my off time since I'm not training for any marathon right now.  Who knows what next fall marathon I'll do, if ANY!  There is so much uncertaincy about what the future holds for all runners and it's really sad.  However, I'm still going to maintain during the summer in order to not have to start over again.  Besides, that's still the only thing keeping me sane during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Dash is also loving me running with her almost every day :)

I did have to board Dash while we took our family vacation to Destin, Florida.  It was hard to leave her, but we have left her at this place before and know she'll be okay.  I did take her food to make sure they feed her that.  I was happy to see that my mom wanted to go with us too this year!  We decided to rent a mini van to be more comfortable for the road trip down there.  I ran almost every day except on travel days.  Eddie bought some running shoes and also joined me on some runs which was nice to run with him again :)

Our boys couldn't get enough of the beach and the condo we stayed was within walking distance to the beach.  We rented some water skies and took the boys.  That was a lot of fun and mom watched from the shore.  Mom was able to go to the beach once.  When not at the beach, we took her shopping, and out to eat seafood in an outdoor patio.  It was a quick trip, but just enough because it was starting to get super busy with people coming in to vacation.  While in Florida the COVID-19 case was about 7K and growing.  Yes, I know life goes on and we can't just stay at home, but I have to think and take care of my elder mother.  We really were all safe and stayed away from big crowds.

Once we got back home, it was time to plan our next anniversary trip for Eddie and I.  We took a quick trip to Cancun, Mexico.  Eddie has never been and they have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.  Well, in my opinion anyways.  It was the cheapest anniversary trip we have ever done because it was all-inclusive and we loved it!

Great food, morning runs everyday and lots of green juice to pick me up and get beach ready!  All beaches in Mexico were closed, except at the resort, which was nice.  Not a lot of people out there.

We come home to Texas summertime hot weather!  It was super humid in Mexico, but with the ocean there was some breeze.  I might of had bad hair day everyday, but I didn't care, it was vacation!  Here in Texas, it more of a dry heat and when you run...well, you just feel like giving up!  It was great to reunite with my Dash again, but know we both have to take it easy in this crazy heat.  Regardless, I've been able to run everyday since we got back at least 5 miles and feel better after I finish.  Yes, June was a great time of traveling and needed it after a stressful spring.
