New York Marathon Training Begins!

It's hard to believe that a little after summer begins, it's time to start training for the New York Marathon to be held on November 2nd!  Work and life still go and and it so happens that I am off work all this week for 4th of July holiday.  So, because of that, Eddie and I decided to take our boys for our family vacation.  We usually go to the beach for the summer, but this year we decided to take them to the mountains.  They agreed to try something new and we took our road trip to Red River, NM.  It is nice to get out of Texas summer heat and head to cooler weather.  It's good timing since our training starts today.  It was a great idea.  We have been non-stop since we got here.  The people here are super friendly and have a lot of free activities for us to do all week.  It's a small resort town (population around 500) and only gets busy during the ski season and summer time when people come here for vacation.  Today we woke up and went on a one mile hiking tour with the boys.  It was so nice, that I talked Eddie into going back with me for our first trail run of 4 miles.  It was tough and the high altitude really kicked our booties!  We loved every minute of it and decided to go for a run every day we are here to really get some good training in.  I also plan on taking the boys hiking everyday in the mountains.  Our days will be filled with fishing, hiking, horseback riding, cooking out everyday, shopping (for me :0) and so much more!  The weather here is perfect.  This temps is high in the 80's and low in the 50's for early mornings/evenings. According to my Garmin, our elevation was max of 8858ft and min of 8627ft. with a gain of 379ft.  We finished in 49:48 as I ran with Eddie and stayed with him.  I couldn't go faster even if I wanted to because of the terrain and high altitude.  I was very proud of him because we talked about only running 3 miles, but he felt good enough to run another mile.  I can't wait for our next hike and run tomorrow!
