I ran my 2nd and last 20 mile scheduled run yesterday as part of my training. I weather was in the 50's and I might of over dressed too warm. I wore a long sleeve fleece top and it was fine when I started, but once the sun came out on my turn around, I got warmer than I wanted. So, I took an alternate route tying to stay in the shade as much as possible. Other than that, I was happy with my pace and was able to maintain my 8 minute mile pace. There were a ton of people out and I ran into another race for walkers on my last mile. It was nice to hear a live band play as I finished. Running in my new shoes felt great and I'm digging the new colors.
I got the new iPhone 7 and need to go buy me a bigger running belt to carry it. It's such a bigger phone than my last phone and it's taking me a little bit to get use to. I do love that it has more storage and better camera. I'll need that for NYC Marathon :) I can't wait to share this experience with my son Fabian. He has never been to NYC or ever flown on an airplane and super excited he is going with us! I wish I could take my whole family, but money is tight right now for we are wanting to remodel our house and need save for that.
After running my long distance runs I like to drink a protein smoothie before I hit the shower. You always want to refuel and nourish your body as soon as you can. Since we bought the Vitamix blender at the Texas State Fair last weekend, I'm excited to try out some new recipes. We used to have one, but I broke it. Eddie and I didn't hesitate when we they were doing a cooking show with it and telling us the deal they had going on. Eddie and I looked at each other and said, "Let's get it!"
Here is my Sweet Green Protein Smoothie recipe:
1 chopped peeled cucumber
Cup of frozen strawberries
Cup fresh spinach
1 tablespoon of chia seeds
1 scoop of Vega Sport Plan-Based Protein
1/2 cup of water
You can add ice if you want it colder
